Overall responsibility: Instruction in the assigned curriculum area or grade level and student supervision
General Functions:
The classroom teacher is expected to:
- Teach kindergarten class.
- Supervise students and student activities as assigned.
- Be informed as the academic, spiritual and social development of each student and take initiative as needed to support student growth.
- Strive to keep professional and high standards throughout the school, modeling and enforcing the guidelines in the student and staff handbooks and adhere to professional and spiritual norms.
- Fulfill professional responsibilities.
- Communicate appropriately with supervisors, parents and peers.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
Specific Functions of the Position:
- Follow the prescribed curriculum.
- Create and use semester, unit and daily lesson plans to achieve the required objectives.
- Prepare adequately to accomplish established class objectives for assigned classes.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies, methods and materials that provide for creative and interesting teaching.
- Maintain proper discipline in the classroom and on school premises to promote a positive teaching environmental and good interpersonal relations.
- Make homework assignments that promote student responsibility and develop self-study skills within ECA guidelines.
- Post lesson plans, homework and grades at least weekly.
- Consult with resource people and available specialists to meet special needs of students who are gifted, have a learning disability, are below academic or behavioral expectations, or have emotional, spiritual or behavioral support needs Supervision.
- Participate in assigned supervision (before and after school, in shared areas, at lunch and/or break), and informally on campus with all students.
- Ensure your assigned class or students are never unsupervised.
- Accompany students in large group settings (chapels, assemblies, etc.).
- Chaperone off-campus trips (field trips, special activities).
- Train, give instructions, and supervise an aide’s work, when assigned a teacher aide Professional responsibilities.
- Maintain adequate and accurate records of attendance, grades, resources, and other pertinent information to meet the requirements of New Mexico, the school administration, and the teacher’s own need for knowledge of student progress.
- Meet deadlines for grades, forms, surveys, responses, etc.
- Participate in scheduled meetings.
- Be responsible for classroom/hallway decorations and organization as assigned.
- Store digital classroom and instructional resources in the appropriate folders.
- Update, fill in and continually polish curriculum guides.
- Seek opportunities for professional development, including: Reading professional books, articles, blogs, etc.; listening to podcasts, panels, or other sources of ideas; attending in-person or virtual workshops, conferences, conventions, etc.; Taking classes, courses or completing certification programs or pursuing advanced degrees communication.
Schoolwide: Be aware of information communicated through official means, such as the through Procare, supervisor emails, group chats, and faculty meetings – respond as appropriate; respond to emails sent from administrators within 24 hours.
With the Principal or ED:
Share instructional and student concerns; Advise and secure approval for absences (For an emergency absence (illness, accident or other urgent occurrence) so a replacement can be found; For pre-arranged absences, share information regarding possible absence with adequate advance warning. Find the sub (with the support of the supervisor) and leave clear substitute plans)
With Parents:
- Maintain regular communication regarding each student’s academic progress (progress reports, report cards, scheduled parent-teacher conferences and other parent or teacher-initiated contacts); Take initiative to communicate with parents regarding any concerns;
- Respond to emails and other official communication within 24 hours Expected Meetings or Commitments: All staff members are expected to attend assigned meetings.
- When it is necessary to miss a meeting, staff members are responsible to communicate the absence to the meeting leader and take initiative to be informed of the content of the meeting and any implications.
- Weekly: Staff devotions; Staff prayer partner time
- 2x/month: Department meetings (can be more frequent); Department or other prayer meetings (can be more frequent); Professional development meetings; Student Chapel participation; Small group leadership ·
- Monthly: Staff worship; New teacher orientation meetings (for new teachers and their mentors) ·
- Other: Annual staff retreat; Graduation; Family Engagement events
- When needed / scheduled: Participate in Interdisciplinary Committee meetings (weekly for some levels); Administer and analyze standardized testing; sub for absent teachers or aides (for supervision); Participate in meetings with supervisor and/or Learning Center staff
Personal Responsibility: Agreement with spiritual and professional norms is an integral part of this contract.
Functions and Responsibilities – Health & Safety:
- Comply with the legal framework and the policies, standards, regulations, and instructions of State of New Mexico Licensure and other standards as required.
- Ensure one's own comprehensive health care.
- Provide clear, truthful, and complete information about one´s own health status and work performance to each supervisor and/or HR.
- Participate in occupational health and safety training activities as defined in the BB training plan.
- Fulfill any other responsibilities established in UUMC and BB policies, procedures, and documents.

- Education preferred: College degree (BA, BS or BE) and preferably trained and certified teachers.
- Experience needed: Teaching experience required, kindergarten experience preferred.
- Technology level: Proficient in Microsoft (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Google Applications (Drive, Calendar and Email).
